Switchygo is a UK based small business whose aim is to put a unique fidget toy in the hands of children and adults alike. Like me, many people struggle to keep their hands still when sitting on a bus, waiting in a line, talking with friends, and many other times; my aim is to give people a genuine quality hand made toy that can satisfy that need to fidget on the go.
Switchygo began when I had an idea: what if I combine a fidget cube with a retro video game device.
So, I set to work, and with lots of trial and error a prototype was put together with a few games, but at this point it didn’t look like much.
With the prototype I was able to put together a schematic and design the PCB (printed circuit board), which is the electronic component of the toy.
Even though it was still just a circuit at this point, I was designing more games and things were shaping up.
But it was still just wires and buttons, with the vision of a fidget cube in mind I designed the plastic case with the fidget mechanisms and now I had a design that looked like a toy.
Next I 3D printed the plastic housing and my vision was sitting in my hand.
With everything made the only hurdle was to acquire certifications that prove the toy is safe to use. Switchygo was dropped, stretched, hammered, and put through all kinds of tests but in the end it came out with the seal of approval and is now available to purchase!
